One answer to the question, What is Witchcraft? is that witchcraft is everyday life. Witchcraft is what everybody is already doing all day long every day underneath the surface hypocrisy and mindlessness of everyday society. People merely pretend that they arent doing witchcraft; just as in Victorian society they pretended they werent having naughty sexual thoughts. As an example, infatuation is actually a mutual bewitchment. Love-at-first-sight is two people bewitching each other; but of course, they dont consider this witchcraft, they consider that it is love (at least up until the bewitchment i.e. the infatuation wears off). Another example of bewitchment is people who are unable to free themselves of an abusive relationship; these people are bewitched. All healers, even medical doctors, bewitch their patients to get well. Successful sales people are good at bewitching their clients. Etc. In short, everybody is manipulating other people on a witchcraft level every day. To command another persons attention or to manipulate their emotions is to bewitch. Therefore, all art is witchcraft: great artists are just very good witches. Artists are able to tune into deep feelings with their art, and to tune other people into them as well. The point is that there is really no such thing as learning witchcraft since everyone already knows how to do it. All that conscious practitioners of witchcraft do is become aware of what is actually going on beneath the surface.
Practitioners of witchcraft are usually more psychic than average to begin with; or at least they trust and rely on their intuition to a greater extent than most people do. Witches tend to have less trust in societys solutions than average people, often because they are oddballs who have been rejected, and therefore find no solace in the assumptions which most people take as the norm. To average people, psychic happenings such as prophetic dreams, precognition, telepathic communications, and omens occur occasionally unbidden; but they cannot control them. These sorts of happening occur to witches with greater frequency because witches intend them to occur. With practice and experience in learning witchcraft, practitioners gain a measure of control over their psychic ability, just as babies learn to gain control over the use of their hands.
The answer to what is witchcraft, is faith. Faith can move mountains; it is the fulcrum by which we create our own reality. The only reason why our everyday world works is because that is where we put our faith. When we are able to have as much faith in learning witchcraft as we do in the certainty that turning on a light switch will make light come, then witchcraft would work as well for us as technology and science do. There are societies other than ours which are based on witchcraft; the Mayan Indians of Central America are an example. These kinds of societies are able to get witchcraft to work for them just as materialistic science works for us, since that is where they invest their faith. The difference between modern society and witchcraft is that witches have a greater patience and willingness to endure whatever pain and confront whatever danger they must in order to make their desires come true. Most people dont do this they always look for a free ride, or for a free handout. Their decisions havent the power to realize their desires because they reverse their decisions and back down whenever the going gets tough. The essence of what is witchcraft, is never turning back.
